NIVEA Double Effect Eye Make-Up Remover

Receiving this product as part of a test put a smile on my face as I've used it for years and it's a staple in my skincare bag. I use it daily, got a monthly subscription to regularly stock it, always keep two bottles in my cabinet in case of delays in the delivery: proof in the picture. I wear stub...

Changed formula, severe reaction

I have used this eye makeup remover consistently everyday for nearly 20 years!! For the last 11/12 weeks I have been at my wits end with severe eczema/dermatitis around my eyes. I have been to the opticians to try and resolve it, to the doctors who prescribed steroid cream. I've been stopping using ...

I purchased this for the first time, last week. It removed my eye make-up BUT there was a burning sensation when I used it. The next day my whole eye area was swollen up. I could barely open my eyes. 3 days later I still have dry skin and bags under my eyes. I do not have sensitive skin and I am not allergic to anything - so what on earth is in this product?

I've used this product yor years and had no problems but have recently had red sore, itchy eyes and reading other reviews I'm not alone. I never considered it could be this product as never reacted to it before instead I put it down to mascara, eyecream or maybe that I developed hay-fever. It got that bad that I stopped using anything on my eyes until it only got better. I started using make up and whenever I removed it would look red and feel itchy. I have stopped using this product and not having any more problems therefore put it down to this.

I have been using this eye makeup remover since 10 years ago but the formula changed some months ago. I noticed dry patches in my eyelids and dry red areas around my eyes. I thought it was a kind of dermatitis. I thought it was my eyeliner or lash mascars but I noticed it was the eye make up remover. After reading some reviews, I know that im the only one with this problem. This is really disappointing. Why did nivea change its formula? This is a dangerous product, it's not normal to have burning sensation, dry skin patched around the eyes!!!.

I loved this makeup remover,I used for at least 10 years but,In the past 2years i noticed that they have changed the formula, and it's not that good anymore as it used to be,also it caused my eyes to burn after this, and I get eye eczema whenever I am using it... ,I thought maybe it's the foundation,my new mascara, eye shadow, some of the skincare product,so I had to test it for a very long time to see what is actually causing it,and on the end it is this make up remover. Such a shame... Because it was great product, and it had more oil before than now... Why change something that is a great product for something that causes skin irritation...

I have been using this product for several years without any issue UNTILL I opened a new bottle 3 weeks ago. Suddenly my eyelids were burning, had swollen and blistered and itchy and extremely painful and barely able to open and see. After a couple of days the skin had dried and flakey. Didn't know what had caused this but was unable to wear make for several days. When I used it again the same reaction happened. Something in the formula has changed and after reading the reviews it's extremely worrying and this product should be removed or at least labeled with a warning. Such a shame as it was a great product at a reasonable price. USE AT YOUR OWN PERIL.

Have used only 5 times, tonight the worst. Severe burning, itching, swollen eyes, very sore and puffy. Had to apply cold compress to ease discomfort. I don't have sensitive skin, just a reaction to whatever chemical is in this product, Do not use!!!

Have been driven mad over the last 6 months thinking that my hayfever has affected my eyelids and skin underneath, swollen, dry, cracking. Hayfever season finished and still the same. Mornings were terrible. Deducted that it must be the eye makeup remover. Bingo! Stopped using Nivea double effect make up remover and my eyes are almost back to normal after 3 days. Goodness only knows what is now in the ingredients as was using it for a year before, with no ill effects. Posting this as was googling for answers frantically and this might help others.

I've used this for years and years and loved it but a few months ago I got swollen red dry eyes and couldn't work out why as wasn't using anything new. I noticed it got better when not wearing eye makeup(and therefore not using the product) . Thanks to these comments below confirming the new formula and that this is definitely what is causing it! Will be discontinuing use and hopefully my swollen eyes recover!
