GAME CHANGER. My baby is now 3 months old, and I have been using the Pump in Style Hands-free provided to me by the Stellar Product Testing Panel for the past month. I have 2 older children, and used a different pump 6/8 years ago, so was looking forward to an updated pumping experience this time ar...ound. Wow, did the Pump in Style give me that! It's small. It's easy. It's strong. I can't say enough good things about it. The collection cups are incredible - they only have 3 parts that fit together simply and snugly. It's satisfying to hear the "click" as the pieces lock into place, knowing that they are secure and ready to go. They really do sit right in my normal or nursing bra, so can be super discreet as well as convenient. They are also very comfortable as they are shaped like the breast. I used the cups as sent, with the 24mm o-ring, so I did not test out how a different size worked. My only complaint with the cups is that I couldn't see through them as much as I would have like to make sure they were cupping the nipple correctly in order to pump the maximum amount. However, they are transparent enough to see the milk level, so I knew approximately when I should be finished pumping. There are tick marks on the side indicating ounces, which are labeled very faintly making it more difficult to see while the cup is sitting in the bra during pumping, but after a few sessions I could estimate the ounces based on the milk level, and after removing the cups I can see the ounce marks clearly. I really like that the cups sit nicely on the base (bottom of the cup) once removed, so the milk won't spill while preparing the bottle or bag to pour into. The cups hold about 5 ounces of milk. So far that has been sufficient, but I anticipate needing to pump more than 5 ounces per side in the future (I would sometimes get 6 or more with my previous children), so my plan is to just stop and empty partially into a bottle before continuing on. I believe this will be simple and quick. Emptying the cups is super easy, as they just need to be tipped upside down to pour into a bottle or bag. Cleaning the cups is equally as easy. Take apart the 3 pieces, wash in hot water, and set to dry. It takes me less than a minute from start to finish! I also sometimes will stick them in the fridge between sessions so I don't have to wash, and they work just as well (though a little cold on the skin) during the second pumping. Noise level/usage - there is an obvious rhythm going on, so I wouldn't have my volume on in a virtual meeting while pumping, but no one in the other room can hear it. I can continue sitting at my computer working while pumping without having to take an actual break and getting half undressed. Suction strength - at first, I didn't think the suction was strong enough as I wasn't getting as much milk as I thought I should be. That was when I first started to pump though, in between direct breastfeeding. Now that I exclusively pump during the day, I am getting the volume of milk I expected and feel that the strength of the pump is just right. There is an option to increase or decrease the strength if needed. The unit itself connects to the tubing, which is a closed system meaning the tubes don't need to be washed. The tubing connects to the collection cups. There are two cups, but they don't always need to both be used, as the tubing can tuck back into itself so that only cup can be used. The first few times I connected the tubing to the cups, I wasn't sure I was connecting it properly because the connector didn't seem to "pop" into the cups. That got better after a few uses and now it pops in as expected. There is a battery pack which allows the unit to be used without being plugged into an outlet. I used this several times, but it ran the batteries down within 3 uses, so I switched to the plug. It's nice to know it's an option when I need to pump while not near a plug. Overall, I am extremely happy with this pump. It is hands down better than my previous pump, and I am so excited that I will be able to take full advantage of it over the next few months or longer!
I was given this breast pump to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel. When I found out I was going to try this hands free pump I was pretty excited as many people I know have raved about Medela and because there are so many cups joining the market these days, I really expected them to set... a new bar. Unfortunately this was not the case for me. To start the cups are not bad, but they're also not great. I like that none of the pieces are small and easy to misplace or forget to put on. The spout was easy to empty almost all the expressed milk, but this was also a major con for me as I went to pick up my crying baby from the pack and play while pumping with less than 2 ounce of milk on each side thinking it shouldn't be a problem, but milk spilled everywhere. To be fair I may have been expecting too much as a similar cup I own only spills if you forget to close the lid or you don't realize you overfilled it (which came out to 7 ounces). The shape is also not very discreet unless you're wearing a baggy shirt. Although with this pump you're not exactly going to be discreet anyways as it's loud and just a lot to carry around. I'm honestly a little confused about how the pump in style design is so popular as it has so many inconvenient features. This pump is rather large for carrying around the house while taking care of a baby and toddler. It has an odd ribbon loop attached for carrying only. Then if you want to not be attached to the wall you need to use 8AA batteries and then plug that battery pack into the side of the pump to carry around too. If it had come with a special bag for holding all of this it may not have bothered me as much. I tried some bags I had around the house and they were uncomfortable to wear across the body between the overly protruding cups so the only suitable option was wearing it over one shoulder where it would then swing all over if you needed to pick something up which is highly likely to happen with 1 baby let alone more kids and any tasks you're trying to do around the house which is likely why you would want wearable cups instead of just a hands free bra. Maybe a large fanny pack would work ok? As a part time working mom who drives all over the state to see clients I love the idea of a pump that can be portable and also plug into the wall, I just think it could be done much better. The first time I used the battery pack I completely forgot to keep track of how many sessions I was able to use one set of batteries for (I think it was 4, but can't really remember) so after swapping in some new batteries I started to count except somehow after only one session it wouldn't turn on again with the brand new batteries which just added to my disappointment. If I had been using this while working I may not have had time or an option to get batteries during my work day. Other disappointments include no timer or visible suction level either on the device or through an app, painful vacuum that expressed less than my other hands free pump despite being the same flange size and needing to use this one until it timed out. Personally I think every pump has its own pros and cons and there is not a perfect one out there so you have to weigh out what you personally need and what you're willing to deal with. For me this has way too many cons, I do plan to use as a back up if I don't have time to wash or charge other parts and need to be away from the wall, but would not particularly recommend especially as a primary pump as I think it would cause my supply to dip.
It is incredibly loud and in the beginning of my journey, this would have been an issue because I was pumping all through the night. Luckily I've gotten to the point that I only pump once and it's in the morning, otherwise this product would have been a complete waste of money. Otherwise, I'd say the product checks the other boxes you want it to hit. Also, in case you are unsure, the pump does to be plugged in work, but does have a "portable" option for a battery pack, too. But the pump and battery pack are rather large/heavy so it isn't something you'll be likely to do much with,.

medela.comI got this pump a couple months ago and I'm so glad I did. I just had my third baby. I'm busy and the fact that I'm not stuck to a wall has been a game changer. Would 100% recommend this pump to everyone!!

medela.comThis pump checks all the boxes. There are only three parts to clean and as a busy, working, new, first time mom, that is a must. Because I was wearing the pump in my bra, I wasn't tempted to watch the milk flow. I love that I can have both hands free while pumping. My milk output was fantastic. The included battery pack let me get things done around the house while I pumped. Overall, this is a great product and I for one highly recommend!

medela.comI only pump a few times a day the rest of the time my daughter nurses. As she's gotten older I've noticed my output is not as much and had to throw in another session. Since using this for a month now I've been able to cut those sessions down to 2 and less time because this pump has doubled my output. It's also whisper quiet, super comfortable and a breeze to clean. The kicker is that I have yet to spill any milk going from cup to bag with no drips! Cannot thank medela enough for allowing me to test this out. Don't hesitate just buy it. You won't regret it

medela.comI received this pump to test out with the new cups. The pump is great. Strong suction, easy settings and one tube makes it easy to set up. The stimulation mode goes for a minute and then it goes to expression mode so it was nice to not worry about changing settings. I took it while traveling and it takes up little space in any bag. The battery pack is a great option if you are on the go or without power for a while. The cups were so easy to clean and assemble. I love that you don't have to use more than one bottle. The pour from the collection cup is smooth and they're comfortable to wear inside any maternity bra. I used them for 80% of my pumps and my supply stayed great. This set up has won me over even my other pumps i own.

I was able to get daily chores done, get ready for the day, make food for my family all while pumping, and not to mention it's very easy to clean and take on the go with you anywhere anytime.

medela.comThis is a great pump! I have used the traditional pump in style advanced for my previous 3 pregnancies. I was offered an opportunity this time where Medela provided me a Pump In Style Hands-free as part of the Medela Make The Switch Challenge. This pump fits easily in any bra I've tried and stays in place with ease. It's very discreet and the tubes connect on the top making it very easy! The pump parts are easy to assemble and put on. It's quiet and relatively portable. It has an option to use with a battery pack which is a nice feature! The pump could be even better if it had a timer. Also, it is hard to know which setting you are on as there is no screen. Not a big deal, just something that would be nice. Overall the ease of use an convenience of this pump is great!
